Tea vs Energy Drinks: Why Tea is Better

In today's hustled obsessed world, people are constantly looking for quick and easy ways to boost their energy levels. Energy drinks have been a popular choice as a quick fix but are they really all that great? While energy drinks may provide a quick jolt, they also come with a number of negative side effects, such as increased heart rate, nervousness, and jitters. All that sounds like a pretty bad time.

On the other hand, tea is a natural alternative that provides a sustained boost of energy without a lot of those nasty side effects. We’re obviously a little biased but why choose an anxiety ridden crash and burn when you could get WEIRD instead?

What are Energy Drinks?

First off, let's define what an energy drink is. Energy drinks are beverages that contain high levels of caffeine and other stimulants, such as taurine and guarana.  They are marketed as a way to increase energy levels, improve mental focus, and enhance physical performance. Energy drinks are typically high in sugar and calories, which can lead to weight gain and other health problems. They also have a high acidity level, which can lead to stomach problems and acid reflux. Again…doesn’t sound like a good time.

Why Tea is a Better Choice than Energy Drinks

Natural Caffeine

Tea is a plant-based beverage with naturally occurring caffeine that has been enjoyed for centuries. The natural caffeine in tea still provides an energy boost but in lower concentrations than energy drinks. A ton of people say that the caffeine from tea gives them a less jittery, less anxious boost too.

Antioxidants

Tea is also high in antioxidants, which can help protect the body from free radicals that can cause cell damage and lead to disease. Tea also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that can help to reduce stress and improve mental focus. Sounds great, right?

Lower Sugar Content and Natural Sweeteners

Tea can also be a lower sugar option than the average energy drink. DRINK WEIRD’s tea lineup has less than HALF the sugar concentration of leading sugar sweetened energy drinks. We also only use organic sugar and never use artificial sweeteners (that stuff is gross). We also have lower sugar than a lot of the other sugar sweetened iced teas on the shelf.
