Tea vs Energy Drinks: Why Tea is Better
People want energy. That's not a mystery. The question is what you want to put in your body to get it.
Energy drinks have been the default for a long time. Tea has been around for a few thousand years. They're both caffeine delivery systems. They're also pretty different. Here's what's actually going on with each one.
What's in a typical energy drink
Most leading energy drinks combine caffeine with other stimulants like taurine and guarana. They're usually sweetened with either a lot of sugar or with artificial sweeteners. Many also contain artificial colors and flavors. The caffeine content varies wildly by brand but the formulas tend to be engineered for a fast, hard hit.
What's in a can of tea
Tea is a plant. Leaves, hot water, done. The caffeine in tea is naturally occurring, not added. The amount of caffeine depends on the type of tea and how it's brewed, but ready-to-drink canned teas vary a lot brand to brand. Some are unsweetened. Some are sweetened with cane sugar. Some use artificial sweeteners. Read the can.
